CLAIM, EVIDENCE AND WARRANT!

The topic that we were stuyding for this week was "Claim, evidence and warrant". First, I want to describe these definitions by Toulmin (2014)

  • CLAIM: This is the conclusion the author wants the reader to agree with.
  • EVIDENCE: This is a specific often obvious, sometimes observable, ocasionally proven, gact.
  • WARRANT: This is a premise connected to the evidence. It has to be at least partially abstract (it applies to many case)

The claim is the equivalent to the opinioin, and the data is the same evidence to support our warrant which is our premise.

What is the opinion?
The opinion refers to when we want to express something on our own, but taking into account that all we want to affirm needs an evidence. A claim states your position on the issue you have chosen to write about.

 What is the evidence?
The evidence is the fact of have proves that support if what we tell and affirm is true or not. The evidence makes our arguments more structured.

 What is the warrant?
It is the main idea that you get at the end of the process it can be easily understood if our idea is clear.

Is there logical connection between them?
Of course, these items are connected because these one linked, create a good statement for arguing. Alwys having in mind that it's necessary to each one follow an logical order throught the argument.

 Example of connection between them:
To conclude, I want to say that it is essential to have these three elements in the writing of argumentative texts, in order to generate a critical thinking and share accurate opinions with people.

Thanks for reading me! :)
